This project was especially exciting for JAT because the California homeowner shared our deep love for historical architecture and spared no expense to restore the shotgun double to its original beauty. The home was riddled with termites and was balloon-framed, which made it more of a challenge, but even in its pre-renovation state, we saw its potential. JAT restored everything from the floors to the dormer windows to the roof. We took delicate care in restoring the fireplaces, keeping the original tile. JAT worked with local artisans to create and re-create several stained-glass windows. When restoring the pocket doors, we realized a bolt was missing, but due to its age we couldn’t just run down to the store to buy one. We spent time scouring salvage yards and were able to find the perfect fit! Upon completion, we were proud to have restored the old warm charm to this shotgun double, while bringing it into the 21st century with things like a state-of-the-art air conditioning system and tankless water heaters.
